This blog is a series of notes sharing Kai dance experiences, epiphanies, and class notes. Kai is designed to stimulate a deeper awareness of the body, mind, emotions and spirit. This blog explores that dance, of awareness, self healing, anatomy, music, mindfulness, archetypes , authentic movement and more.
Kai was created in January 2013 by dancer/choreographer/fitness expert Kelly Atkins. After 30 years of teaching traditional fitness, yoga and various forms of dance, the idea of creating an experience that was accessible to a wide range of body types/fitness levels/men and woman and that was user friendly for teachers and participants came to Kelly. Kai blends a wide range of music with combines 21 simple organic movements put into patterns designed to challenge the body/mind connection. Experiences are infused with some guided freestyle and end with more alignment based "core play". Kai experiences are fun, a cardio/strength workout that's great for building bone strength and offer a unique creative way to achieve sustainable health throughout the body as a whole. Inspired greatly from nature, and the natural ways the body needs to express, release, breathe, flow, and move, Kai provides a space for many different fitness "levels" and types of people to move together in their own unique way. Many people say one of the things they love about Kai is how safe, and relaxed they feel when they walk in the door....just being surrounded by the growing community ...
