What is Kai?

Kai is a barefoot cardio dance practice that encourages body love as a way to achieve wellness on all levels.   

(Rhymes with "Sky")

  • In Hawaiian it means"Ocean"

  • In Japanese it means "Opening"

  • In Swahili it means "Loveable".

 

Kai blends 21 movements designed to ground, energize and free expression in the body and mind with Authentic Movement. 

 Kai was founded by Kelly Atkins in 2013 and trademarked in 2014.  Kelly began teaching traditional fitness in 1987 and completed a degree in Health and Wellness from Empire State University in 2000. After teaching Nia as a Black Belt trainer status, yoga , pilates and other forms of fitness for 26 years she formed Kai by watching her community of movers and noticing what seemed to bring the groups more alive, more joy and also what stimulated more results in personal empowerment.  She wove in her previous experience in brain awareness, somatics, dance and the latest in research with neuroplasticity. She's since trained 80 people from 6 different countries and 8 USA states both online and onsite with trainings.  She currently offers regular weekly classes in Sarasota, Florida where she enjoys raising her two sons.

What is Kai?????

Kai is a great cardio workout that leaves you sweating, centered, released, opened, more core connected, and .....IT STIMULATES THE MIND INTENTIONALLY and DYNAMICALLY.  

"Thru the years I have listened to story after story of the amazing benefits students have received from bones strength, lowered blood pressure, weight loss, more coordination, increased happiness and more.  

Some students start with goals around fitness.  Those same students come a few months later and report how they are enjoying the group and feeling really connected, supported and loved.  Fast forward to a few years and something happens and that same student is now coming with a goal of healing an illness.  A bit later this same student begins sharing they are at a cross roads in their life and thru Kai they discovered a new way to handle a decision they are needing to make.  Kai meets you right where you are at and delivers wellbeing in a multitude of ways.  

The way Kai works is through the 7 foundational elements and the 21 moves put to choreography through a variety of dance and movement forms.  The overlaying theme is "integrative fitness", meaning bringing the body, mind, emotions and spirit into "one" or simply put "Whole". Most people have read the science behind cardiovascular health, meditation, wellness, self care, and the need to feel empowered with ones health.  Through practicing Kai,  all of these needs are met in a one hour class.

 It's simple to learn, is developed over time with practice and is a powerful way to return to YOUR natural birthright of JOY and healthy vibrance.  

The month of March is all about FITNESS.  Get healthy, or get healthier!  Feel the inner athlete and find new edges of growth over the next 30 days with pleasure as a guiding force.  You don't need experience, you can be healing while also building strength. Everything is about finding YOU in the challenge.  We've grounded, we've stimulated pleasure all of february....NOW is the time to GO BEYOND!
