What is Kai?
(Rhymes with "Sky")
In Hawaiian it means"Ocean"
In Japanese it means "Opening"
In Swahili it means "Loveable".
Simply put Kai is a creative dance fitness class that offers non-traditional benefits.
" I wanted to create something that was FUN, focused on PLEASURE and had lots of dance, as well as allowed for the healing somatics I had studied at length. Stress reduction, efficiency in movement and sustainability in the body as well as the power of community are all very important aspects of Kai. It begins with personal responsibility, freedom and choice." --Kelly Atkins
Out of a desire to share her passion for helping others feel great and love their bodies, Kelly Atkins created Kai in January 2013. After teaching traditional fitness for 13 years and finishing her bachelors of science degree in health and wellness, she became a well recognized professional in the field, in Watertown NY. She was a fitness expert on the local news channel and on radio. She then taught many different mind/body methods of movement for the next 13 years including yoga, Nia ( to NGT trainer status) pilates, martial arts, dance and somatics ( Feldenkrais, Alexander technique and yoga). By observing the community and listening deeply within, Kai was created and continues to evolve and grow.
Kai is based on the latest research into brain function and neuroplasticity, each Kai experience is designed to specifically target areas often not utilized in everyday, electronic-driven life.
Kai blends the best of authentic Movement with 21 simple organic movements designed to stimulate the brain, dynamically.
The body is accessed through sensory awareness, allowing participants to develop more focus, and the ability to adapt the movements moment-to-moment.
